The lignite mining company MIBRAG was incorporated in 1994 and has been one of the Germany’s top three lignite producers ever since. Out of the company’s approximate 2000 staff, 160 are trainees. Annual production of raw lignite reaches approx. 20 million tonnes. Apart from two opencast mines, the company operates beneficiation facilities. RAG Mining Solutions is a high-tech underground mining company. The company has around 50 employees and provides services as underground mining, management, engineering (incl. consulting and training services), as well as integrated marketing of used mining equipment. RAG MS possesses highly valuable mining knowhow and has extensive international project expertise (China, Russia, Vietnam, etc.). The company falls back on the long-standing mining expertise of the parent company RAG Aktiengesellschaft which manages all German underground coal mining activities since 1998 and represents a group of companies with approximately 20,000 employees.

Emscher Wassertechnik is a 100% subsidiary of Emschergenossenschaft, the largest autonomous German wastewater association, located at the heart of the largest mining area in Germany. Emscher Wassertechnik is a modern service company specializing in water and environmental protection, offering excellent engineering expertise with a wide choice of services and application of interdisciplinary methods of operation. The company has many years’ experience in the national and international markets. The scope of services in the field of water includes management, operational services, engineering and organizational services as well as training for water management, including wastewater treatment, groundwater, and water courses.
Founded in 1409, the University of Leipzig covers 145 degree programmes with more than 28,000 students. The Chair conducts international research cooperation with the University of California Davis, University of Maryland, Northwestern University and the Technion Israel Institute of Technology.
